Usisa Atenista: Meet the Press 2011
Voices were heard, platforms were dissected, accomplishments were uncovered and personalities were put under the spotlight as Usisa Atenista: Meet the Press 2011 by The Crusader Publication, in partnership with the Atenista Ako Movement, went under way last Feb. 16, 2011 at the StC lobby. This second leg of the annual event featured independent Central Student Government Presidential candidate Jose Emmanuel “Yayun” Patrimonio and the Alyansang Atenista’s standard-bearer Mario “Gem-gem” Tero II.

The XU community was given a chance to recount the present government’s promises as candidates, and take a closer look at the services the CSG had provided during their tenure. Incumbent CSG President Ernesto “Tonton” Neri also presented his administration’s activities and achievements during the Academic Year, along with Vice President Louie Jay Ban Jarales, who gave his legislative report. They answered questions regarding their projects fired at them from the audience.
In the same manner, the candidates for next year’s CSG gave their platforms and were subjected to the open forum, which kicked off with a video question from incoming University President, Fr. Bobby Yap, SJ, and the Director of Student Affairs, Ms. Irene Guitarte. After that, they responded with more questions from the jury, composed of editors of The Crusader Publication, and more queries from the audience.
The audience was allowed to voice their opinions on what they heard from both the current CSG members and the candidates by raising cards of either “Tamaah” or “Estoryahe”, and the program closed with an overall voting for the two candidates, Tero and Patrimonio. The competition turned out to be close between the two aspirants.
The event also featured a promotional skit by the Xavier Stage for their maiden production, Ulilang Tahanan.
Usisa Atenista: Meet the Press 2011 was conducted to help the XU community decide whom they should go for in this year’s BotarAtenista. A Miting de Avance will be held on Feburary 23, a day before the campus elections, for the Student Body to know even more about the candidates. Fittingly, it was also the last event ever to be held in the StC lobby.
Hopefully, by now, the Ateneans have the clear choice and will cast the well-informed vote.
